Ice Melt & Salt on Carpeting

January 2, 2011

“I think we should wait until the entire Winter season is over before I have my carpets cleaned-After all, why clean in January and then get more more snow and ice followed by sand and ice melt being tracked into our office?  It doesn’t really matter if we leave the salt, sand and grime in our carpet for several months-Right?”

It important to continually remove the built-up contaminants in your textiles. Carpet is a wonderful flooring  product.

  • It provides plenty of comfort for workers
  • It adds warmth to a typical office environment
  • It collects and traps soil, tracked in contaminants and air-borne particles-making for a safer working atmosphere

But your carpeting, which can also be thought of as a very large filter of contaminants, needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. Once soils are allowed to “fill up” this filter its ability to absorb and restrain more is diminished. Regular,  thorough professional cleaning of your office carpet (upholstery and drapery too) will not only prolong it’s usable life but will make for a more pleasant environment for you and your workers. Below are some examples of what your carpet should not look like:

Winchester carpet cleaning

This last photo shows a real challenge-carpeted stairs in commercial locations are very difficult to bring back to a useful condition.  Professional cleaning of these areas (Boston commercial locations) should result in the owner obtaining several more years of use from the carpeting, as long as the maintenance program proposed to them is followed. In most commercial environments the closer to an entryway the floor covering is the more frequent and intense the cleaning will be.
