Shaggy is not just a Cartoon Character!

November 30, 2010

At our Boston area Oriental Rug Cleaning Spa we are seeing more shag area rugs coming through the door.  Our clients love the modern coloring, deep, rich wool pile and the retro look.  However, without a proper game plan to address the care and maintenance of these rugs you will find that they will not perform as you had hoped.  You may have heard us talk about soil removal in the past, specifically involving custom drapery, wall-to-wall carpeting, upholstered furniture and Oriental rugs, but pay special attention now: Shag rugs can hide up to two times the amount of soil as low pile floor coverings!  With the winter weather soon to visit us in the Boston area these rugs are susceptible to hiding large quantities of ice-melt, grime and sand.  Read on for some helpful tips…

(PS to find out why we love wool rugs visit: http://www.woolsnz.com/ )  Tell them Shirley sent you!

"I LOVE WOOL!"

In rugs like the ones pictured above, where does all the dirt go?  These  wool shag rugs represent a larger share of the residential area rug market.  Because of the pile height (up to 3″) shag rugs that are not vacuumed and regularly professionally cleaned will not last very long.  The deep rich pile of shag rugs make them very comfortable to walk or relax on, but these rugs can also hide a lot of particulate soil.  Weekly vacuuming is a must and periodic professional cleaning that includes “dusting”,  specialty spot/stain removal and a thorough washing is an absolute requirement.  Please watch the video for more information.
