Moth Damage to Your Fine Oriental Rugs is About to Begin!
Late May and into early June is the beginning of household moth and bug season here in the Boston area.
Below is the enemy! The next picture is the result of their wool-munching offspring
Below, the area to the right side of the coin shows the actual wool pile yarns missing. The moth larvae eat the wool protein fiber soon after exiting their protective cocoon. Re-weaving a rug with extensive moth and insect damage can be costly. For much more reasonable tips which will help prevent the moth infestation view the video below.
Remember to:
1. Rotate all rugs at least once or better, twice a year
2. Clean spots and spills quickly
3. Vacuum regularily, including the back of your rugs
4. Professional washing is recommended every 12-36 months
