DUSTOLOGY: You guessed it………………………………………The Study of Dust.
Dust is a general name for minute solid particles with diameters less than 20 thou (500 micrometers). Particles in the atmosphere arise from various sources such as soil dust lifted up by wind, volcanic eruptions, and pollution. Dust in homes, offices, and other human environments consist primarily of human skin cells, but also contain small amounts of plant pollen, human and animal hairs, textile fibers, paper fibers, minerals from outdoor soil, and many other materials which may be found in the local environment. Although we deal with dust on daily basis I’m not sure we qualify as “Dustologists”. However if you follow this link http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=120252957 courtesy of www.NPR.org you will be able to gain some insights into the field of indoor air pollution and its effect on you and your family’s health.
The author(s) state that two thirds of the dust in your home originates from the outdoors, either tracked in or from airborne particles. LESSON: Prevention is the best medicine. As we’ve mentioned many times in the past use deep pile, commercial grade walk off matts on both sides of entry doors-allow the matts to be long enough to capture the loose soils from your feet (5-10 feet if possible).
