Here are some insider tips on How to Keep Your Upholstery Looking and Smelling Great Between Professional Cleanings!
- Vacuum dust and dirt from all fabric, cracks and crevasses so it does not cause abrasion to the fabric. Think of how much dust would accumulate on a table if it were never dusted. That same amount is on your sofa, too. You just can’t see it. Use a vacuum with a gentle beater-brush to lift and dislodge soils.
- Reapply Stainguard Fabric Protection after each professional cleaning. Fabric protectors repel water-based and oil-based liquid spills and keeps granular soils towards the top of the fabric allowing more particulate soils (sand and dust) to be removed during routine vacuuming. NOTE: Our new solvent fabric protectors are rated for UV (sunlight) protection.
- Rotate all loose cushions frequently to assure even wear. Most sofa cushions are reversible but people seldom take advantage of this. Every few weeks when you vacuum flip the cushions-this will even out the wear and UV fading resulting in a cleaner longer lasting fabric.
- Draw the Drapes. Simply close the shades and drapery in all rooms that receive direct sunlight. All fabrics will eventually loose some color due to UV fading.
- Keep Pets Off. Your pet’s body oils rub off and are very difficult to remove. Even professional upholstery cleaning has challenges with pet fur and body fluids.
- Designer blue Jeans..CAUTION! Fabric dyes can transfer easily onto your sofa and upholstered chairs-even on some of the newer leathers.
- Pet Fur-If you have pets that shed purchase a pair of rubber dish gloves. The gloves will allow the fur to bunch up into clumps making it easier to pick up or vacuum. Other options include wrapping tape around your hand, sticky side out; using a lint roller; or using a cloth brush to collect the fur.
