Preventative Stitching

Preventative stitching as seen in the photo to the left (notice the white threads running perpendicular to the rugs foundation yarns) does not constitute a full or complete repair that is usually done on an Oriental rug.  The stitching will however keep the rug from unraveling during a thorough cleaning as well as when it is put back into normal residential use.  This hand stitching is relatively inexpensive and is acceptable as long as the owner realizes that it is only a stop-gap measure to prolong the useful life of their rug.  A full repair can be performed on almost any rug when the client feels the cost is justified.

The rug immediately to the left was repaired in the three  very obvious damaged areas with a simple overcast stitch-visible only from the back.  During full cleaning none of the damaged areas unravelled and this simple repair should give the owner additional options if complete repair is desired at some point in the future.  See more of what’s going on at Regal Fabric Care in JULY!
