This Beautiful Tapestry Is Just Where It Should Be: Hanging On The Wall
Once we detached this beautiful tapestry from its support rod we brought it to our Boston area rug washing shop. Step one is always a thorough pre-inspection. We examine for color bleeding, insect damage, UV fading/damage, weakened fibers, previous attempts at cleaning or repairs and of course any odor issues. If we determine the wall hanging can and should be cleaned we then will decide if a piece like this requires a wet/water-based cleaning or a dry/solvent-based method. An older piece like this usually requires the same method and techniques of cleaning as delicate upholstered furniture-no aggressive rubbing or scouring, no harsh chemicals, no stiff brushing or powerful vacuuming. Our goal is always to preserve the integrity of the weave. Note: We always suggest an insect repellant application following cleaning-helps keep moths and bugs away.
