My World Unraveled-Now What???

Overcasting is a Temporary Solution

Dogs and cats may be our best friends, but not necessarily the best friends of our carpeting, draperies and upholstery.  We recently received an Oriental rug at our Woburn location with considerable damage caused by the dog while the family was away on vacation.  Apparently the dog did not appreciate being left alone and decided to show his displeasure by trying to destroy one of the Oriental rugs.

So what happens when your Oriental rug begins to unravel and fray? Can the unraveling be stopped?  The answer is YES!  Depending on the amount and location of the damage, many times your valuable hand-knotted rug can be repaired  just enough to stop the unraveling.  The picture above shows a rug that was overcast stitched at the fringe to stop the unraveling.  The new stitching is strong enough to allow the rug to be thoroughly washed and put back into use for some time before an owner will have to decide whether or not to re-overcast or do a full reweaving-type repair.

Overcasting as mention in an earlier post is a stop-gap measure to help maintain the general integrity of a woven rug.  Pictured below is another example overcasting that is intended to stop the unraveling, at least for the foreseeable future.
