- Beater Bar– Most experts will agree that a vacuum cleaner equipped with a rotating beater bar head is the best all around choice for the homeowner. Weather you choose a canister or upright style of vacuum, for maximum soil removal, it must be equipped with two motors, one to run the vacuum and a separate motor for the beater bar.
- HEPA Filter Bags– The choice of filter bags is critical. Almost all manufacturers will have High Efficiency Particulate Air or HEPA filters available for their machines. These filter bags will trap virtually all the air borne particles during the vacuuming process and thus help to improve your homes indoor air quality. Speaking of filter bags, remember to change yours when they become more than half full. A half full filter bag reduces the your vacuum’s efficiency by as much as eighty percent.
- Maintenance – Routine maintenance such as cleaning brushes regularly and replacing them when worn, making sure obstructions do not restrict air flow, and checking and replacing belts when needed will all help make your vacuum more efficient.
