Oriental Rug Washing: Dyes Can Bleed

Even when dyes used on wool fibers are tested for bleeding prior to a wet-washing bleeding can occur. If bleeding starts during the rug washing process it is usually best to continue straight through to the end. If you stop the wash or rinse of a rug that bleeds the lose dyes will settle in other areas of the rug. Removing dry migrated dyes can be difficult. We prefer to add a detergent that encourages the lose dyes to run off the rug, allowing a quick dry-down and no “mingling” of dyes.

Take a look at the video to see just how much a rug can bleed:

*Send Us Your Swatch

A service we provide which allows customers to send us their swatch(s), usually one square foot minimum, and we will treat it for stain repellency and return, allowing our customer to judge for themselves how the product performs.  Our protectors leave no odors or changes to the look or feel.
