House Plants On Persian Rugs

Placing house plants on your valuable Persian rugs can lead to permanent damage to not only the wood flooring but can degrade and destroy the wool pile yarns that make up the top of the rug.

As the video below shows, continued over-watering can slowly cause microbial growth which can “eat away” at the natural materials that make up a Persian rug. Placing house plants on Persian rugs should only be done when a plastic pan or saucer is used to completely capture any moisture that may seep through a terracotta planter or spill over the sides. We also recommend homeowners who have planters on rugs to move them at least weekly, allowing the wool to “breathe” and release moisture which builds up in wool fibers.
