Do These 5 Things First……

SPEED MATTERS WHEN DEALING WITH WET RUGS

Freezing Temperatures + Burst Pipes = Wet Oriental Rugs

The sooner you act the better the chance you have of preserving your valuable Antique Oriental Rugs. Remember, even a clean water leak if not attended to quickly can generate mold and mildew growth in as little as 36 hours. Below are some tips should a water damage situation occur at your home and wet the rugs!

  1. First Things First: Safety-make sure that the water is turned off and that there is no electricity/current exposed in the area of the wet rugs
  2. Wet vacuum the rugs where they are. Saturated rugs are EXTREMELY Heavy to move. Be sure to wet vacuum the padding and promptly discard-rug pad is hardly ever worth trying to salvage.
  3. Place towels under each rug to absorb the remaining water while you wait for your Oriental Rug Care Expert to pick them up for a complete washing
  4. If you plan on bringing your rugs to the rug washing facility by your self be careful not to roll too tightly-older, more delicate rugs can tear ( at the foundation) when subjected to too much stress.
  5. DO NOT place fans across your rugs and hope they will be fine-Wet rugs will warp hardwood floors and promote the growth of mold and mildew, not to mention dye bleeding!
